The Next Chapter at Judge Morris Estate: Delaware’s Newest Wedding & Event Venue

Our Delaware Story Is Growing!

We’re adding a new venue to the JAMily! In partnership with the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, we’re thrilled to introduce Judge Morris Estate, a new wedding and event venue coming to White Clay Creek State Park in Newark, Delaware.

Opening in Spring 2027, Judge Morris Estate becomes our third venue in partnership with Delaware State Parks, joining Bellevue Hall and The Barn at Cauffiel Estate. And in a year when Delaware State Parks is celebrating its 75th anniversary, we couldn’t think of a better time to continue growing together.

Surrounded by more than 500 acres of White Clay Creek State Park, Judge Morris Estate has the romance of a countryside escape and generations of history behind it. Now, we get to become part of what comes next.

The Story Behind the Estate

The story of Judge Morris Estate stretches back to the early 1800s, with much of the character that defines the property today shaped over generations. The estate later became home to Judge Hugh M. Morris, a prominent Delaware attorney and federal judge who also spent decades on the University of Delaware Board of Trustees, including 20 years as its president.

Following Morris’s death, the estate passed to the University of Delaware. In 1998, the State of Delaware acquired the property and incorporated it into White Clay Creek State Park, where Delaware State Parks has continued to care for the estate and its grounds.

That care has included the remaining stone walls of the estate’s former barn. When their future came into question, White Clay Creek State Park Superintendent, Laura Lee, championed their preservation, recognizing the original stonework as an important part of the property worth keeping. In 2022, the ruins were restored and stabilized.

Turns out, saving those walls was a very good call! Because today, they’re at the center of what’s ahead.

Romance in the Ruins

Enter: The Solarium

Set within the footprint of the former barn, this completely glass reception space puts the estate’s history front and center. Designed alongside architects Archer & Buchanan and constructed by Losberger De Boer, the Solarium will be the first of its kind in our collection of venues.

The original stone walls will stand throughout the Solarium, weaving through a new space for dinner and dancing for up to 275 guests. Beyond the glass, White Clay Creek State Park surrounds the celebration in every direction. Look up and the view keeps going, with a completely clear roof draped in soft fabric swags and chandeliers glowing overhead.

As the sun goes down, the trees outside begin to glow, the stone lights up and the night sky becomes part of the room. Dinner beneath the glass turns into dancing beneath the stars, with the ruins at the heart of it all.

Envision Your Day at Judge Morris Estate

Of course, there’s a whole wedding day to enjoy before the dance floor opens.

Getting ready begins inside the estate with two spaces that each have a story of their own. The Barclay Keep sets the mood with rich wood tones and a space that unfolds across two floors. Named after John Barclay, who built the original stone house in 1792, the keep gives you room to settle in with your people, pour a drink and enjoy some time together before the day gets underway.

Upstairs, the Emma Suite spans two rooms, giving you plenty of space for getting ready, sharing a few laughs and soaking up the anticipation before the ceremony. Out the windows, the Chestnut Hill lawn stretches out below with Emma’s Pond in the distance, a fitting view for a suite named after Judge Hugh Morris’s wife, Emma, who was instrumental in creating the pond. As ceremony time gets closer, sneak a peek below to catch the hustle and bustle as guests make their way across the lawn, hugs are exchanged and seats begin to fill.

Then, when everyone is in place, it’s your turn.

Make your grand entrance from the estate and onto the Chestnut Hill Lawn, with White Clay Creek State Park all around and Emma’s Pond glistening in the distance. Let the anticipation build with every step toward “I do.”

Once the “I do’s” are official, cocktail hour takes over the entire first floor of the estate. The dining room and parlor fill with conversation while the celebration spills out onto the front patio and back courtyard. Drinks are raised, favorite moments from the ceremony are already being recapped, and that post- “I do” excitement carries from inside the house out into the open air.

When cocktail hour wraps, it’s finally time to head for the Solarium. Dinner brings everyone together among the ruins before the celebration carries onto the dance floor. Somewhere in between, take a moment to soak it all in. Everyone you love is here, and you get to spend the night celebrating together.

Celebrations That Give Back

There’s one more part of the Judge Morris Estate story that means a lot to us.

Our partnership with Delaware State Parks has already given us the opportunity to care for and celebrate two incredible Delaware properties, Bellevue Hall and The Barn at Cauffiel Estate. Judge Morris Estate makes three, continuing and expanding a relationship built around sharing these places while helping care for what makes them special.

Events at Judge Morris Estate will support Delaware State Parks and its continued stewardship of parks, historic places and natural resources across Delaware. So while new memories are being made here, the celebrations themselves help support the place where they happen. We’d say that’s worth a toast!

Spring 2027, Here We Come!

Judge Morris Estate will begin welcoming weddings, corporate events and community gatherings as early as April 2027, and booking is officially open for Spring 2027 and beyond.
